This is the way we wash our clothes

This is the way we wash our clothes
every monday morning!
This is the way we dry our clothes
dry our clothes

This is the way we dry our clothes
every monday morning!

Mmmm.....
there is nothing better then laundry dried out on the line
in the sunshine and fresh air!

Do you line dry or use the dryer?

I wish I could hang my sheets for the bed out on the line. I loved the smell of fresh sheets. It is a memory of the way it was at home when I was a wee little one. Thanks for the memories.

LOL I'm in Oregon. I never dry outside on the line, but I'd love to!
Pretty hankies, they look lovely outside!

I SO wished that my laundry looked like that! :) I would love to line dry, but it is SO DRY here and there is no wind, so it dries fast and crunchy...not very comfortable! lol Thanks for the delightful pictures!

P.S. I linked to you...hope that's okay! :)

I USED to line dry but don't now because it's not possible. Still, I WISH I could! Okay - got to ask - do you really USE that charming Maytag? About 25 years ago I had a small SEMI automatic washer. It was one of the first of its kind. It had to be filled for washing, then emptied, then filled for rinsing. And it was a VERY small machine! But I loved it! I got it at a garage sale from an OLD lady who sold it to me for $5. I used that thing for nearly 6 years before it totally gave out! Definitely got my money's worth from it! LOL! Love your washer & the way your clothes look hanging there so cheerfully!

I use the dryer here Dolly.
We aren't even allowed to have lines here. I remember my mom drying the clothes outside though.

Love, love, love the Maytag! Unfortunately for much of the year it's not possible to line dry in northern Illinois. But I do when I get a warm day.

I love the photo of the beautiful hankies and other beautiful things hanging out on the line. What a colerful cheerful picture. I love to hang my clothes out, especially when the wind is blowing. Thanks for a great reminder of the little joys of life.

Those fabrics hanging on that line are the most gorgeous things EVER! I use both, my clothes line and the dryer. I have a policy that anything that has to touch "any of the sensitive bits" of the body have to go into the dryer so that they are ultra SOFT (like underwear & towels for example). Everything else goes on the line to dry. I love the smell of clothes washed in lavender scent, then dried on the line! Hope you're having a lovely day sweetie!

Love your blog. Boy, do I remember mother's old maytag washer. It was her best friend even after getting the 'automatic' she kept it.Oh, how I would love to have a clothes line. Where I live we have plenty of wind to air them quickly.
I like hankies too.

That looks absolutely beautiful--all those beautiful old linens and hankies, with their fun colors, drying in the sunshine! Sigh.

I like to hang out certain things-ALWAYS the bed linens! I hang out the towels too, but pop them in the dryer for a few minutes afterwards to get the stiff out.

Oh, there is just nothing better than slipping into a bed made with freshly washed and sunshine dried linens! THAT is summer!

Smiles, Karen

I am in the south. (Texas) So I hang dry most of our laundry. There are 2 appliances in my home I would gladly give away. The dryer is one. The microwave oven is the other. If we have several wet days in a row and I get deperate for something, I will use the dryer. Not often.

Miss Dolly,
Loved the old washing machine and line-dried laundry! I used to live across from an elderly couple who had a fantastic backyard clothesline. I used to walk across the dirt road, barefooted, with my basket to hang out my sheets and tablecloths. Loved that fresh smell from the sunshine. Ahhh! simple pleasures are the best. Thanks for the memories. Hugs, Jan@daylilylane

I use both. I partially dry my clothing and, when it is nice outside, hang them out on the line to finish drying. It adds a fresh smell to the clothes...along with my Downey Lavender rinse. yumm...

Hi Dolly
I think this is the first time I've visited your blog and I just had to tell you about when I was a girl and my mom hung the clothes out on the line to dry. This was before clothes dryers. I remember in the winter, the sheets would all freeze stiff on the clothesline and then mom would bring them in and finish anging thm in the basement until they were dry. It has been years since I've had a house where it would be possible to line dry clothes but I recall how wonderful they smelled.
I enjoyed my visit and will be back again.

I remember as a child when my mother and grandmother hung out the laundry to dry. It was such fun running in between the aisles of hanging clothing! Today, there's so much pollution in the air that just being outside for a short time makes a person smell yucky. Ok. I know that sounds bad, but I have a very keen sense of smell and I tell you, there is a startling difference between the city air and the country air. Can you tell that I live in the city? My mother, however, lives in the country and we can be outside all day there and not smell like we do in the city. So I'm a dryer girl for certain!
