Ba Ba Ba Bennie and the Jet

This is Bennie..... I bought him for hubby for Christmas!
He had a parakeet for about 10 years that he had trained and was very people friendly.....Kiwi would sit on hubbys' shoulder all day and sing in his ear!
He really had a hard time when Kiwi passed this summer!
So daughter and I decided it was time to get hubby another parakeet!
Bennie is very unique....
grey upper body with purple under body! Not your average parakeet
you know sky blue or green & yellow!

So now you are wondering where the bunny comes in!
Well let me tell you!

Yesterday my daughter and I went to the pet shop to pick out the PERFECT parakeet....
While I am at the register paying...
the gal asked "would you like a free bunny or gerbil?"
I am thinking that is a strange question so I ask "why do you ask"
She said someone had bought them in and asked us to find them a good home"

I asked to see the bunny and knelt down next to his cage and it was love at first sight!
He licked my fingers and gave me that take TAKE ME home with you look!
My heart melted! Just then my daughter walked up as I have tears in my eyes....I told her the story and she asked me a bunch of questions to make sure I really wanted another pet.....
She is such a mom! LOL
She also reminded me that hubby would not be happy about this!
You see he loves animals but believes they belong outside!
I decided I could not walk away from this precious face and we took him with us!
How did they get their names you ask?
Well we are driving home and the song Bennie and the Jets by Elton John comes on the radio and Bennie starts chirping and shakin the box...we both look at each other like what got into him!
"I said I think he likes this song....lets name him Bennie!"
Sam {daughter} loves it
{at our old church she had a little old man friend named Bennie and Sam really loved Bennie and Bennies eyes lite up when he saw Sam}
So Bennie is both perfect and sentimental!
Then I said "lets name bunny Jet."
Sam said "mom that is perfect I love it!"
It was a mother daughter moment that I had to preserve!
{at first I named bunny freckles}
Hubby was half asleep when we got home so it was easy to bring Jet into the house.
This morning he suggested we build a cage in the chicken coop for Jet and I suggested we try leaving him in the house to bond with the cats and make sure he is litter box trained first!
He is not thrilled and I am glad he did not get as mad as I expected!

He is so perfect.... he is just hopping around the house sniffing everything!
His favorite place to lay is under the christmas tree in the kitchen!
{the cats are not too sure of this new creature}

Merry Christmas
Hugz,
Dolly

I've never had a bunny but I "heard" they like to chew wires - so watch your electrical cords etc. What a nice story and what a lovely person you are to bring Jet and Bennie into your home.

Sandy ~ I had a mini lopp years ago that I litter box trained and she ran the house and I quickly learned they love to chew wires so yes we are taking those precautions!

Julie~ Bunnys go in the same spot so you give them a box and they will decide which corner they like and you reward them each time they go....just like a dog! Easy to train!!!!!!

But thankfully Jet has been running out of his cage all day and not popped on the floor once...he goes back to his cage and does his thing!
He is such a good boy!

Aww Dolly, what a wonderful heartwarming story.What a special day with daughter. I'm sure hubby will warm up to Jet, I mean you gotta love a face like that. He is adorable, beautifully marked. Bennie is unique and must be a fan of Elton John. Good choice! lOL. Absolutely fabulous Christms gifts. You just saved those little babies' lives. A gift of a day from God I think. He knew you were the one.

Love the song, love that bunny and bird. What a team they will be and what joy to be experienced!
Watch out for the household cords, bunnies love cords..you may be living in the dark, with no t.v. or phone!
Have a happy Christmas with those you love-

Oh my gooodnesssss!!!!! Tooo adorable!! LOVE the story! I have been dreaming of owning a Budgie for YEARS!!...a parakeet much like Bennie. My sister even bought me the cage, books, toys, food, etc for my bday 5 yrs ago...I still have to talk Aaron into the actual bird!! (He cannot handle loss of pets, so it is so hard to convince him to adopt a new family member)

And bunnnnies are a FAVE!! I WISH I had a bunny!! I talk about them alllll day!! lol ...(not kidding)

Why can't you live next door? ;)

Well, I look forward to hearing about your new family members...and what the cats think..haha!

Have FUN with them!! ..more pics please!!! :)

XOXO Jenny
