Chalk Boards can be Elegant

This little hall way leads from the mud room and front room into the kitchen.
That blank wall has been begging for a chalk board for a long time but I could not find anything vintage that fit the wall or purpose!
While in my daughters studio I spied this huge frame....
she used often for her photo shoots!
It fit the requirements for the perfect chalk board....
elegant YES.....huge YES, and it fit the wall! YES!

Perfect detailing.....

I got the can of spray paint out an wham bam I had a great start to the perfect chalk board!
Off to Home Depot to have my wood cut..... home again...sanding the wood and started painting first with 3 coats of primer, then 3 coats of magnetic paint {this stuff is great it turns anything into a magnetic board} then 6 coats of chalk board paint!
Wha-laaaaa.....

Hubby built a lil shelf to hold the chalk and eraser.....
Cute Cute Cute
Thank you hubby!

I am debating if I should shabby it up a bit..... rub some paint off here and there!
What do you think?
Everyone that walks by draws something on it or writes a note!
I love it.....

Hi Dolly,
Wow - that's one beautiful frame and chalkboard! And it fits that space just right. You should get some of that wet ink chalk (like they use in the restaurants) in different colors (go to "Warm Pie, Happy Home" blog to read about product).

Your chalkboard is sensational!!

We have a chalkboard in our kitchen. When we first bought this house I remember saying to my Hubby "That eyesore has got to go!!" Now 14 years later it is still there & the frame has been painted by me a couple of times!! I am having a "love affair" with my chalkboard!! LOL!!

love the frame! a super cute chalk board.
you could shabby it, or dry brush it with a light shade of something, or you could use rub-n-buff.
I like it like it is, but it has such lovely detail... hmmmm

It's gorgeous, Dolly! Does your daughter know that you took it? Hee-hee!
I never can bear to shabby anything up after all the work of priming and painting! I figure my stuff will shabby up naturally in no time flat! ♥

That chalkboard is awesome and I love the stripes! You're right, you do need some Frog Tape with all of that work! :)

Oh thats awesome! So sweet of your hubby to put a tray for the chalk. If you age it, and don't like it, you can paint it again.

This is adorable! I love how you painted the frame white. I kind of like it just as it is without roughing it up. The best part of yours is that clever little ledge for chalk and eraser. I'm finding you via the chalkboard party. I'm your newest follower and would be delighted to have you follow me back!
Have a wonderful day!

Looks great. I am in love with that frame. I tried to buy a similar one at Homegoods so spray white but it was chipped and they wouldn't sell it because it was sharp! ??? Will have to drool over yours!
